Was going around the AA site and found this link to Sears, seem they still have parts for the 400 Atari in stock even did a search for some 800XL parts ( by part number only) and bingo some are still in there warehouse.

With the 400 bits even the diagrams are handy.

Well, holy crap!

Who'd a thunk? I have quite a lot to do before I get my 400s though :)

Far out!

Some parts not available once you get down to the details but still...Incredible that it's even there!

On a similar line, I'm guessing that the following site is probably going to come as a surprise too then?

http://zx81kit.zx80.com/index.html

Turns out new old stock for lots of retro stuff is turning up all the time. (Found this while researching the ZX80 - there's a pretty good site for a recreation of that system too).
I guess it just depends on what you plug into Yahoo/Google as to what comes up.

Those are the Zebra Systems ones. When I first saw them come up he was flogging them at $49.95 USD (1999) each. When he started getting orders the price jumped up ($99 USD in 2000) every year ($200 USD in 2008) or so.

I wouldn't say "all the time." I've been in this game for about 15 years now, and such finds are a rare but pleasant surprise. I first heard of Zebra in about 2000, so they've been doing it for while now.

Perhaps he's finally running out of stock :o) I was more interested in the support peripherals (memory packs), but I think he's priced himself out of the market. Website say's he's on holiday, but it's been a long holiday if the groups are anything to go by. Most of the links are gone in support. So I'm sure he's done his dash and run.
I wouldn't say "all the time."

Cor, I must have been drunk with joy and over enthused with the discovery. If we focus on one make, then it is very infrequently, but across all systems, a couple of great finds a year seem to get mention. It's getting harder to pick the true 'barn finds' vs the recreation projects, but I stand by my comment, there are still new old parts comming to light every so often. The useful things like cases or custom chips/programmed ULAs are almost non existant, but unpopulated circuit boards and chip packs are all over the place. It's the oportunists that get lucky like mr. ZX81 there, make a splash and scam, it hiding the good stuff out there.

I'll go crawl back under my rock again :o)

True but they do list a M/B for $132.49
Keyboard for $68.99
PCB Ram board for $91.49

and things like a door shield which are often broken or missing for $3.99 or the whole door for $5.99
even a brand new PSU available

what I found best was if you have the part number and search that it shows stock for other models even though when you search for that model Sears state no info.
I wonder if they would ship internationally?

Yeah, and he's not selling any at that price - he's had "42 left in stock" for a couple of years and an entire web site re-write :)

I'd still say it has been a rare occurrence over the past 15 odd years. And nobody's ever accused me of focussing on one make ;)

Do you have some pointers here? If spares are available at good prices I'm always interested.

To be fair to Stewart, these were old stock he'd had since the 80s when he was a supplier to the US education market. He "rediscovered" them sitting in his warehouse a decade or so later. I'm aware of him selling them since '96 or '97.

Jason Scott tried out the Sears parts, and has reported as follows:

From Sears PartsDirect: "The item(s) ordered is (are) discontinued. There is no authorized substitution for the item(s) at this time."
-- https://twitter.com/#!/textfiles/status ... 4123371521

So to summarize, I ordered all unique parts from http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdi ... t=&shdMod= and none are in stock and my money is to be refunded. EXPERIMENT OVER.

It's a shame really, but not surprising.
