"Atari 400P" : http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/vintage/auction-466371028.htm

There's something very special about a computer with four joystick ports.

As far as I was aware the Atari 400P still has a membrane keyboard. Could this be a 400 with the Cherry Keyboard upgrade (or similar)?

Well, on Wednesday night I was watching a doco on the Knights Templar, so I think I'm qualified to make a comment on the Grail...

Okay, I stand corrected.

Yes, certainly not an original.

Mind you, one time I found someone selliing replacement 400 keyboards on the web for not much money. I can't remember where right now.

Replace the keyboard with a membrane one and you have an original Atari 400.

I've definitely seen replacement 400 membranes as well, so they're out there somewhere :)

From my perspective as someone trying to preserve the history I think the keyboard mod would be worth keeping. Period "upgrades" and hacks are interesting in their own right. I'd gladly display it beside one of my original 400s :)

Yes... I'll bet it would make for an interesting analogue data collection device.
