Sega SC-3000

Postby mrad01 on Tue Oct 16, 2012 4:59 pm

Just picked up a Sega SC-3000 "home computer" AKA console with a keyboard. Perfect condition and included the tape drive, joystick, carts, cassettes and some Sega computer magazines!

I'll get some more details up here once I catalogue everything and then try it out!

They're a pretty sweet wee machine, you'll have fun with that. :)

Well, looks like it'll need some work! I hooked it up to the TV and it just shows a black screen...which I think is normal. Power off and add in the Basic Cart - still a black screen. Try a game cart - still a black screen.

After a couple of reboots it did actually beep - but nothing much else. Probably need to clean the cart connector and check board soldering...

Yep black screen on power up with nothing in it is normal. The cart connector on both of my SC3000s is a real mongrel, it takes a lot of holding your tongue on the right angle while others in the room invoke the spirits of video game and jiggling the carts before it starts up! :)

Yeah, I have just cleaned each connector inside the cart slot, and have resoldered each pin of the connector to the board (and a few other very dodgy solders) - soon to re-assemble and test!

It's alive!!

Resoldered the cart connector and a few other bad solders, reassemble, and it fires up and works!

Excellent. Often it's just the simple things that stop these things from working.

Congo Bongo is a total mongrel of a game! I've got it on both the SC-3000 and the Commodore 64 - no real changes to be announced between the two, they're both quite difficult. Flicky is another that's easy to learn and VERY hard to master.
