Very early Macs

Postby xjas on Tue Feb 12, 2013 1:49 pm

There's a second hand shop in central Auckland who have five or six early Macs available. I don't know the exact models but they're the same style as this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/vint ... 316002.htm

Some of them are obviously broken (they may all be for all I know) and if that's the case they're pretty steep at $100 each, but they may be worth checking out if you're desparate for some parts or whatever. They didn't seem to have any keyboards or accessories.

The shop is called the White Elephant Op Shop on K' Road. They don't seem to have any web presence and their "storefront" is just a door to a down stairwell crammed between two other shops. If anyone's interested I can get their phone number next time I walk by that way.

Cool, glad I pointed them out then!

Are they in working order? Some of the ones I saw there looked pretty tough.

Just got one running now, the other will be used to build another SE/30 out of my SE. Looks like it'll clean up well.

That's awesome! How about a "restoration thread"?
I'm still hoping someday to walk into a random hole-in-the-wall place and walk out with a Yamaha CX5MII/128 or CX7M, or a C1 laptop, but I'm not holding my breath.

I cruise the op shops in that area every couple weeks or so, I'll post more if I see anything else interesting come up.

Was there anything else left, after you grabbed the SE/30's Marcus?

I went back and bought the other two SEs yesterday... I have another SE/30 motherboard which will drop into one. Planning on running A/UX on that one.

All that was left was the machine on trade me (Mac 512) - but its not the best. There is a Mac Plus, but I think they want to keep that one.

Haha, you cleaned them out eh? That shop should really pay me a sales commission.
Glad to see they all went to a good home!
