PowerPC or earlier PowerBooks

Postby Beags on Fri Apr 19, 2013 11:49 am

Looking to start collecting old Apple laptops. Currently have a 366 Mhz G3 iBook Clamshell in fully working order, a PowerBook 100 and a PowerBook 150 in varying states of repair (or disrepair!!!).
Would really like a PowerBook Duo with a Duo dock - been looking for one of these for AGES! But any old mac laptop will do to build my collection. Also, any condition accepted as I would like to build a list of parts and do my own repairs and hot rodding!

Hi, there's a nice PowerBook PowePC hidden (well, if it's not in Computers/Vintage on trademe most of us don't see it) in the Apple/Laptops category for $25 - http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/appl ... 344586.htm

I think vintage Apple laptops would be great to collect (says me who doesn't myself), are rare (according to HCM homecomputer.de), and in my years seeing them on trademe never sell for more than $30 each.

Good luck!

I'm going to be listing a couple of Mac lappies soon, one is a Powerbook 1400, it's a bit rough and the other one of the clamshell types. Will need to test them up first so hopefully will be listing later today or early next week depending on how my day does today.
molten_media on TradeMe, which is also my place of work. No particular interests apart from passing on some of the gems that come through the door.

The "Beags Vintage PowerBook" collection is gathering potential! I have been informed that Marton will soon have its own Menzshed, see "http://menssheds.org.nz/ for what a menzshed is. I know the shed will probably be %99 "metal and wood" but I am hoping to introduce a bit of "electronic" to it as well. Basically, I want to be able to work alongside fellow men in their repective hobbies etc, sharing our likes and passions and this Menzshed sounds like the goer. Will keep you posted and any contributions (no matter how small or damaged) would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi

I have a PowerBook 160 that I would like to see going to a good home

I turned it on for the first time in a few years, appears to still try booting up but screen while lighting up does not display anything. Get a few beeps when I hit keys and mouse buttons

Battery is totally dead but the original power supply works (needs a few repairs on the plastic casing)
Also have a portable printer that goes with it. It's a GCC WriteMove thermal printer. I have not tried to get that working.

Interested?

Thanks YetiSeti, I have seen this but they are in Christchurch and Im not keen on paying postage/couriage for it. But then I haven't worked out how much that would cost - I do "need" a Powerbook 150, hmmm...

Courier cost for particular weight and size (found by checking Mactracker), Inter Island, is about $30-$40 - no thanks.

My Powerbook 100 has arrived. Opened it up and to my surprise found a 6 MB ram card and an internal modem (probably 2400 baud). So far I've been able to cobble a working unit from this one and another I got years ago. I say working, it gives a lovely startup chime and checks RAM with no problems but just a flashing ?, so hopefully I can get either of the hard drives (40MB each!) formatted and installed with 7.1. (rubbing hands together with glee!!!)
