Tim Burnell - C64/Sega Master System

Postby talisman on Wed Jan 22, 2014 12:11 pm

Hello, just introducing myself. I'm in the West Auckland area and have just pulled the C64 and old Master System out of storage. They both seem to work but trying to find a few parts/perphs and get them up and running again proper.
Also interested in finding out about new technology I can plug in/mod with to get the best use out of the retro systems in the '14's.

Cheers

Currently looking for:

* a working 1541 or 1541-II
or *a 4pin 1541-II power cable
or *someone who knows how to fix a continuously spinning 1541
or *someone who has knowledge to refit a 1541-II with a modern power cable (ie jug cord)

*joysticks :)

Basically the Commodore 64 works sweet, I have 2 drives. One is not functioning correctly, one is missing a cable.

Sega parts to follow...

Welcome Tim,

There are a few C64 users on the forums. Good luck in your search for spare parts.

Hi Tim,

I've found this page very helpful: http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm.html
But in the end I've stopped using the disk drives and ordered in a SD card reader for the C64 instead. Much much betterer: http://www.sd2iec.co.uk/id4.html Just get all your disk images onto there (from the internet) and you are set to go.
While you are at it - you can also get a composite cable for the C64 which will drive your LED TV just fine too.

As for the Master system - if you don't have a AV port on the back and it is just RF out - never fear! If you are confident with a soldering iron, they are pretty easy to add composite video to it and also get that onto your big TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJxBgH-zBVQ

I think the Master System had a AV port for which you can get a composite cable. The Master System II had only RF out (well, the ones I've seen)

Enjoy - and welcome!

Awesome stuff Tezza & Marcus. You've put me well in the right direction (love that SD card!) and I'll update this with progress over the next few weeks.

Choice one :)
