HXC SD Floppy emulator and a Model 1 TRS-80

Postby Audronic on Tue Jul 01, 2014 12:15 pm

Hi all

Just some information.

If you connect a HXC SD Floppy emulator to a Model 1 expansion interface without this modification it won't work correctly.

The 34 pin edge connector in the Model 1 expansion interface has pins 32 and 34 Joined together.
Pin 32 is for Side one Select and 34 should be OPEN.
Please cut the link between 32 and 34.

When connected to the HXC SD Floppy emulator if you join 32 and 34 together the Floppy ready signal on 34 will flip sides in the HXC SD Floppy emulator.
And your Mounted volume will not be seen.

Just to follow up on this.

Over at the VCF we discovered that the joined pins are only present on the early expansion units. The later ones are fine and the floppy emulator behaves itself on those without any card edge modification to the expansion unit, similar to the System 80.
