Original Blue G3 Powermac

Postby Clarky on Mon Jul 28, 2014 1:58 pm

I was a Designer / Desk Top Publisher in London in the 90s and now live on the Kapiti Coast. I'm clearing out all my old computing gear. I would just take it to Trash Palace but I think my Blue G3 Powermac may be a collectors item. It was the very first of it's kind with the iconic Studio Display. If I'd not been an early adopter I'd probably still be using it today. But the hard disk can't be upgraded on the first G3s beyond 9Gb. The models released 3 months later allowed up to 128Gb. I'd much rather have had one of those but I didn't know at the time. It will still work if you can find a working HD that size and I've still got some original boxed design software to go with it. I'm not looking for anything to trade in particular for this stuff. Anyone who wants it is free to come and pick it up, and anything else I have lying around too. Be quick though, I'm keen to complete the clear out. Cheers.

These links are the closest I have found to a full description of my G3

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/p ... 00_bl.html

http://www.everymac.com/monitors/apple/ ... splay.html

The bit missing is the 9gb HD limitation.

Clarky,

Welcome to the forums.

I've moved this from Introductions to the "Vintage Items Available" section. It belongs better here.

These are nice looking machines. Beyond my collecting scope but hopefully useful to someone.

Hi Clarky, I would be interested in the design software. Are you able to give me a list and their respective media's?

Hi Beags, I have Adobe Illustrator 3.0 and Quark XPress 3.11 in original boxes with user guides and serial numbers. All floppy disks and ATM came bundled with Illustrator. I also have some XPress books if you are interested. Back in the day I knew that program inside out :D
Cheers.

If anything is left unclaimed by the Mac collectors, let me know and I'll happily come pick it up for my own collection :) I've got lots of spare drives under 9GB.
I rarely see computers at TP these days - I'm not sure if it's because they're not coming in, or if they're just throwing them out / recycling. Even the laptop pile is gone now.

That's the sort of post I like to see SpidersWeb. I just want someone to come round my house, have a look through my stuff, and walk away with what they want. Sounds like an invitation for a burglary!

Hey Clarky, that software sounds great. I live in Marton and could probably do a trip down to Kapiti in the weekend. Can you PM (Private Message) me with some contact details or ask me mine and we'll talk turkey!

Clarky, I got your PM and I also am having a little difficulty with that. My reply to Carcenomy is still sitting in the outbox and I don't know if he has received it! I will text you when I can.

When he reads it, it will move in to your "Sent" box :)

Yeah Porirua tip - Sometimes if someone has dropped off a whole bunch of gear you'll find something, but it's been slim pickings the last few months.
