I don't buy it. No reason they couldn't have done something elegant with the surrounding bodywork to hold the battery in even with some form of sliding latch rather than gluing without sacrificing too much, and hard fitted RAM modules have been a bad idea forever. They're a pain in the butt in a Commodore 64, and they're even more of a pain in the butt with modern BGA modules. Space isn't even really the issue with the memory either since the SSD and wireless cards are on seperate modules - so there IS thickness available for slots...
Still, the target audience will never care. They'll never upgrade their Mac even if the option was available, they'll just hock it for next season's model.
