Non working Macintosh IIci, IIsi and Performa 680CD

Postby dan.c on Sun May 24, 2015 4:40 pm

New to the forum - recently started collecting a few older macs. Have a few questions about a couple I have picked up that do not work.

The mac IIci and IIsi do not start at all - no lights, no fan, nothing. After opening them up i found the rom simms are missing from both of them. Will these prevent powering up at all, or will there be more issues? If that is likely the only issue anyone know where I could find the missing simms?

The preforma 680CD also has no signs of life - until you pull the logic board out. Then the fan, power light, hard drive etc all kick into life. Apparently it worked before being in storage for the last 10 years... any suggestions? I have left it plugged in for 24 hours in the hope of charging PRAM battery but no go.

have a few more that have issues too... but we'll leave those for another day.

If a computer was working before being stored then that's a good start but electronic components age while in storage, there's also good storage and bad storage.

From memory mac IIci and IIsi model suffer from the leaky capacitor issue.

I'm not sure if missing ROM simms can prevent signs of powering up at all. They might. Electrolyte from leaky caps might as well. Check for signs of leakage around the caps and if seen clean up the area with isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds. That might help. ... lution.htm
