Then there's the little things with modern displays that give you the right gutsache. We built a setup for a chap who wanted to run Trainz REALLY GOOD. It ended up having a Viewsonic VX2453mh-LED display with a Radeon 6870, all very nice modern kit. The monitor so flash that it had HDMI only. But, when coupled to the Radeon, the graphics card was enabling some form of option which caused the display to downscale and not fill the display. We tried every setting that the Catalyst drivers could give us but to no avail. We ended up sending the flash VX2453 back in favour of the VA2448-LED - a ViewSonic Value series monitor with VGA and DVI. Hooked it up with DVI and bam, perfect image at 1920x1080.
Just goes to show you that even with the latest gear, it's not always a winner. At least with VGA and the later DVI standard, it just works and it does so reliably.
Just the local Commodore hobo and middle-aged PC hoarder.
eisa on Trademe. A lasting reminder of a Compaq fetish when I was younger.
