Interesting webpage I found on the site. Looks old as they state the Atari 800 is now almost 20 years old.

Its not accessible from the home page BTW (Thanks to Google for finding it)

A very readable and succinct history. Thanks for posting.

Yes, my collection has enabled me to get familiar with many of the systems that were in vogue when those two Atari machines were introduced in 1978, and with the Atari machines themselves. Judging them alongside other 1978/79 technology aimed for a similar market I can't help but be impressed. It's a pity that the likes of the Atari 800 didn't also have had some kind of 80 column mode, at least when attached to a monitor. This extra screen real-estate would have made it a very versatile machine for the home and hobbyist, at least until the end of the 8-bit era.

There are some interesting snippets of Atari history in a book I read recently. Troublemakers by Leslie Berlin. Nolan Bushnell was apparently quite a character, and who knows what might have been if Warner had not taken over Atari. Interesting times in Silicon Valley.
