System 80 Hardware History
Click on the links opposite to read (or nostalgically revisit) the hardware that was the System 80.
The genesis of the System 80 is covered in the Origins page. The System 80 Models section details the introduction of the first release (with the full text of a review from Micro-80) through to the final "blue label" model. Specifications are discussed and documented.
Common Modifications discusses the hardware changes many owners made to improve usability (and compatibility!) while the section on Accessories includes photos and information about the standard and not-so standard expansion options such as the Syspan expansion unit, the Exatron Stringy Floppy and the DP1000.
The information contained herein, comes from revisiting the pages of manuals and magazines (especially Micro-80), corresponding or talking with the many contributors and my own recollections. If readers spot any errors or glaring omissions, please email me.
