Well, normally it would seem reasonable, but it does seem a little cheeky to ask for "free or cheap" when you know that the person (especially if they're related to the e-day people) will probably throw anything give to them straight back on trademe asking top dollar.

Yeah, that's me. I thought the "free or cheap" was a bit cheeky so I stuck my own in there to add a bit if class. Only one response so far for me, a guy who wants to sell me faulty IIes but won't tell me which model they are or send photos

Not that I've seen. There was a guy advertising a collection on "let me know what you want and we'll talk" basis but he never once responded to my messages.

Their terms are much better than Trade Me, but the audience is limited. Despite having no commission on sales I still list on Trade Me because I'm pretty sure I'll get a better price there.

Yes, unfortunately, trademe have too much critical mass, which is a shame.

You would be right. I posted that in response to the other person listing a wanted for free ad. My listing was not very serious and I didn't expect to get anything out of it, but I didn't like the feel of that auction when the person's motives are not explained. Of course the next day after seeing Lizardboy post a serious one it made me think I needed to turn it into something more serious too just in case. A vicious spiral indeed. I'm happy to remove my listing if the other guy is shamed out of his listing. Though I had for a number of years think about putting a wanted ad on there. 0

I'm surprised Tezza didn't know of Sella. How can you not know of NZ's number two auction web site? I'm not surprised most people don't know of Sella actually - the network effect and gravity around trademe is that great. I have watched the progress of Sella (but not really the listings) and consider it as much of a point of contemplation as the Google+ thread here. How does one get from second place to first?

Let's see, free listings, a better site,yet it still sucks due to no real listings. I've almost never seen any vintage computer or gaming listings on sella when I look periodically. Do a search on 'sega', 'atari', 'nintendo' week after week, year after year and you'll hardly ever find a vintage listing. Dig a bit deeper across pretty much any category and you'll find it's all shop new stuff, and maybe a few dominant dealers in each category and that's about it. The same items are spammed across multiple listings to inflate their listing numbers which they're proud to parade. They want to be better. They've not just shot themselves in their feet, they've nail gunned themselves.

A month ago I did have a gander in the Vintage/Computers and saw a boxed ZX Spectrum 48K, microdrives & Interface 1 sold for $10. That's about the only item I've seen there ever.

Sella are trying to be better than trademe. The wanted to buy listings aren't against their T&C and there's a number of ways people are using the site for different types of listings that trademe will not allow. There's a community forum/messageboard on there that's worth a reading. Just check how often they're updated and contrast that to the trademe forums and you'll see how dead it is.

They have one chance if trademe list, hike their fees to appease the shareholders, which will force many to start looking around and stumble into the number twos.

I've been placing wanted ads for this type of gear in various online forums since the late 1990s, and have had almost no response, ever. When I saw your ad I have a bit of a chuckle and thought I'd show youse fellas how to do it right I had all the photos handy anyway.

That was me. Faulty Spectrum, Faulty IF1 (tested on a known working Speccy), dead PSU. I haven't tested the MD separately but I expect it's probably dead too. A bit of a disappointment really. I have some excellent 16Ks, but was hoping for a working 48K without too much effort.
