Who is in the Auckland area

Postby WelshWizard on Sat Dec 31, 2011 3:23 pm

Just wondering how many of us are in the Auckland area, seeing as the Windy city looks like they may be able to get a meet up going.

I'm also in Auckland (Central) and would be happy to host a meet / trade / exchange session.... (Luckily I have a big shed)
Would be a good chance to sort out and giveaway lots of the spare gear I have accumulated.

Would be good to meet up with some other Vintage computer nuts, I know we have others in the Auckland area , they seem to be a bit shy though.

You don't need many for a meeting. Heck I think for our first Southern region one at Levin (just a lunch meeting really) was only five (six if you count Andrew's son). It doesn't need to have any formality. It's just good to get together with like minded people and talk about your passion.

A late reply here - one more for Auckland. I used to have about 150 square metres of storage packed with classic computers, but things are a lot more manageable now. Mostly Apple 2, ZX81, and Spectravideo, though I do have some other random bits (SX64, TRS80 4P, etc). I'd be up for a meeting if there was one.

The only thing needed is honesty... Hi my name is <insert name> and I'm a computerholic. :D

All we'd need is a time and place... centralish might be best, though probably not in town itself. Anyone in that area keen to host? Mount Eden/Pt Chev/Epsom/...? Or it could be a dinner thing at some restaurant perhaps?

My vote is an after work catchup (perhaps somewhere were you can get a burger and a beer) anywhere between Ponsonby (work) and Pukekohe (home).

It would be great to put faces to aliases.

Sounds fine to me, for fairness might be best to keep it central, though I'm not too fussy myself. Nothing too expensive though, trying to save my pennies for a trip to Europe soon! Suggestions? Something along the lines of the Horse and Trap or Speights Alehouse (both Mt Eden) would be fine for the burger and beer side of things, but not great value; at the Alehouse a basic burger and fries was about $22 last time I looked, and may be even more than that now! Seems excessive to me, though the quality isn't bad at all.

Mt Eden seems a good call to me.
