Burning EPROMS for beginners

Postby tezza on Mon Oct 22, 2012 9:42 am

When I first started to explore EPROMS to replaced failed ROMS I found it hard to get practical information that told me the basics hence I decided to write an article on it to help others. I imagine most of the regulars here will be old hands at this.

Thanks for that Terry. The early cassette based Microbee units used 2516 and 2532 EPROMS for their Character ROM and 2532's for BASIC, EDASM, Games, etc. I've had trouble trying to locate a unit that could read and program these. I asked the Willem supplier who say the latest Willem (looks similar to the one you had) will do them. So I bought it, but soon realised it cant. So we are in negotiations to get it amended to be able to read/write 25xx eproms. All I now need is the updated software and I should be right :)

The 2516's I have all read/write okay if I just select 2716 and select appropriate voltage, but the 2532 is not pin compatible to the 2732. I'll probably just make up this adapter though http://www.pinballeon.com/truks/etechtips.htm rather than Willems suggestion of soldering in wires.

Hi Alan,

Yes, an adaptor worked fine for me for burning 2532 ROMS in a programmer designed for 2732s as mentioned in my article here:

Arr didnt see that article. Looks like similar adapters so looks like I'd better get busy and put one together. Thanks.
