Nice site guys, I love the passion people put into their hobbies and the expertise that they create.
I found a Compaq SLT/286 in the shed and turned it on and it works!! HDD a bit flaky though. Thanks for the article on pulling this apart.
Do you have a classified ads section? I'd like the SLT to go to a good home.

I really enjoyed the restoration story. I reminds me of all the technological hurdles and developments that people had to overcome before us to get to where we are today, and how much we take for granted with current technology. We have become far too much a "if it's broken, throw it away" society.

Thanks for the tutorial on the Dallas Realtime chip. It allowed me to salvage a wonderful Fujikama 386DX motherboard.

PLEASE PLEASE scan "The captain 80 book of Basic Adventures". I'd love to get the chance to type these games in and port them to the Commodore 64, and I don't have a copy of the book. It's worth about $75 on amazon.com and if you could scan your copy, you'd save me from buying it.
THANKS!
Terry Stewart:
Sorry Rio, I won't be scanning this.
I've contacted the author for permission and he doesn't want this available digitally. I'll respect his wishes in this regard.

Great site!
I did a bit of work with Gilberts in the 80s (in Anzac Ave then). They did some upgrades such as piggyback RAM, with bank switching to allow RAM at 0-16k and so run 'real' CP/M. I did various BIOSes for that. 30 years on my memory is vague!
Does anyone know where Ray James got to?

Great site, interesting blog entries (but I can't comment any, e.g. the one with the Kaypro II RAM failure search).
Have an own vintage computer blog too (see my homepage www.z80.eu, but not such a hardware oriented one
Was a pleasure to visit your site, please go on with that...

My friends and I were all going through the TRS-80 stage in the early 1980's, and the subject of the System 80 had come up several times. But until discovering your website here, I really never knew the details! It's been great reading! Your hard work shows! Thanks for giving this subject the time and work it deserves!
Terry Stewart:
Thanks Mike,
Glad you enjoyed the site!

In regards to: Bringing a Vic-20 back from the dead!
I have a VIC that I want to remove some chips/swap from another board.
How do you remove the chips from the board? I am VERY new to any type of electronics work. I have a solder iron but that's about it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Terry Stewart:
I've replied via email Jonathan.

Great site.. Started by selling off some of my old systems (Trade Me)- have ended up getting fired up again over System 80 and will set up my 1983 Blue Label system again. They were and still are outstanding computers. In the process I have found a fix for my system which had developed a wavy screen display.PS Hope you get the EPROMS
Terry Stewart:
Hi Kenneth,
Excellent. I recently fixed a wavy screen problem on one of my own System 80s. Faulty capacitors in the PSU.
These machines certainly had an impact in NZ (and OZ) and deserve to be preserved, if not just to prove to future generations that useful things could be written in 16K of RAM!

Just wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort for this amazing machine. I have very fond memories of playing all kinds of games into the wee hours and I miss them as the modern ones someone don't have the same magic. Good on ya mate! Keep it up!

Thanks for the support Rob!
